Divorce actions can take time, especially when there are children or complex assets involved. At Oriol Law Firm, we will help you get through the process efficiently, while protecting your rights at every step in the process. We serve clients in St. Tammany Parish and surrounding areas.
Louisiana is a no-fault divorce state. This means that you and your spouse will not have to prove fault in the breakup of the marriage. In fact, you don't even have to give a reason for your divorce. This enables you and your spouse to focus on the substantive issues of divorce such as:
- How you will divide marital property
- Whether or not one spouse will have to pay support to the other
- If you have children, how you and your spouse will share parental responsibilities after your divorce
In order to begin the process, you or your spouse will file a petition for divorce in your parish. In most circumstances, you and your spouse must live separate and apart for at least 180 days to one year before the divorce can be completed.
While you are waiting for your divorce to become finalized, the court can issue orders for spousal support, child support, and child custody and visitation. The court can also order one party to make house payments and car payments.
David Oriol has extensive experience guiding men and women through all of the issues that may arise in a divorce. We understand that every divorce process is unique. No two families have the same assets, the same debts or the same personalities.
